We are trying and that's what is important. Right?
I am trying to think about all the things that Abby and I have done since our last post. And since it has been almost 3 weeks since we posted last, it is going to be hard. But I will give it my best. I know for sure that my brother came in town from Fort Smith, AR. Which for those of you who are not familiar with the great state of Arkansas, Fort Smith is somewhere on the left side of the state. And I think it is close to Oklahoma, that or Texas. I do know it is about a 6 hour drive from Fort Smith to Memphis, so Rudy doesn't come visit that often. He came in for the Labor Day weekend, but I had to work most of it. But we did get to hang out on Sunday. My parents and Rudy came up to Mud Island to see Abby, Daphne, and I and we went to eat at The Flying Fish. I still liked it, but my mom was not impressed with the food. But she has a weird sense of taste sometimes. Everyone else liked it though. We went to the Flying Saucer after dinner and Rudy came with us and hung out with us until my parents were ready to go home. When Abby and I are not working, we are doing an impressive amount of rowing. We joined the Mid-South Indoor Rowing Club about a month ago and we try and go at least 3 times a week. And to say that it is one of the hardest things I have ever done that would be an understatement. Every time we go, I leave covered in sweat and on the verge of throwing up. But after my nausea subsides, I feel pretty good. I just dread it a little bit because I know that I am going to be pushed every time we go there and there is no such thing as an easy workout. Abby and I have been attending HighPoint church for about a month now and we like it a lot. We have attended the 20's and 30's married group once and it was interesting and we are glad we found a group we hope to fit in with. And we have signed up to help tutor students at Overton High school for the ACT starting this weekend. Now you might find yourself asking "what business do Abby and Robert, two nurses, have teaching high schoolers how to pass the ACT? Shouldn't they leave that to teachers or recent high school grads?" And you would have a very good point. But we are the best option for the students. They don't have teachers or recent high school grads as an option, so two nurses are going to have to do for now. And hopefully I can learn a thing or two in attempt to study for the GRE in the next year or so. anyways that covers what i can remember now.... i wrote this post prob 2 weeks ago but am just now publishing it. ahhh....

We arent very good at this...
It would appear that Robert and I are not very good at this blogging thing at all. But we are trying! This blog will probably be too long so that we can catch up on everything! Since July 17th we have been to 3 different weddings, one in Jackson, one in New Orleans and one in Hattiesburg.
In Jackson, for Chad and Barbara's wedding, we got to spend time with a lot of people that we hadn't seen since our wedding. We stayed with Jaime and spent Saturday and Sunday there. We got to see my sister and brother-in-law for a little bit. We got to spend time with Andrew and Ashley after the wedding and we got to eat dinner with Jessica and Brad, we went to eat at Sal and Mookies, very interesting pizzas. Of course I went simple and got cheese, chicken and bacon- my ultimate food groups! After that we went to see Inception, which was really good. The concept behind the movie and the graphics were definitely the best part. Between all of the weddings we have been working and going to meetings and working and attempting to have a life here in Memphis. The New Orleans wedding was Kate and Jack's!
It was a lot of fun to get out of town, Robert and I stayed an extra day in New Orleans so that we could have some time away. We celebrated our 3 month wedding anniversary, corny we know!! We wanted to go to the aquarium but unforutanely it was closed. So we went by the casino to see what it was like, there Harrah's is huge, its almost ridiculous!!
And finally we went to Jake and Maria's Hattiesburg wedding. That Friday we went to Jackson and stayed with my sister and Jordan and went to dinner to celebrate Jessica's birthday.
It was so good to be home and catch up with them. Saturday we drove to the wedding, saw more people we havent seen in a while and got to reminisce on the good ol' college days at USM. We drove to Meridian after the wedding and Sunday went to church, went to my cousin's Caleb's one year birthday party and then my dad taught Robert to grill!
The food was delicious and the lesson went really well. Finally we are home and this past weekend has been so nice. Robert and I have gotten to spend the past 4 days together and it has been the most rare and most precious time! We rarely get to work similar schedules so when we do get that many days off together we actually end up planning more stuff to do instead of relaxing. Saturday we went to see Step Up 3D and although it didnt really need to be 3D it was a very enjoyable movie. We hae become obsessed with So You Think You Can Dance and some of the past competitors were in the movie and some of the choreographers helped do the dances. After that we went to eat dinner at Pearl's Oyster House with our friends Nikki and Noel. Pearl's is always good, we havent been since Kaylis came to celebrate her birthday. Sunday we went back to the church that we have recently found and thoroughly enjoy. It's called Highpoint Church and its the perfect mix for us, its has contemporary but the message is always Bible based and keeps both of us awake. Next week we are going to try the Sunday school class and we are really hoping that it works for us. Sunday after church we did more cleaning and "chores" than we have in a long time We have also spent tons of quality time playing with Daphne, we play ball for 15 minutes then she is worn out.
Within the next hour she is up and roaring to go. We do this over and over all day long. But we love it! We also went running, okay it was more like jogging and walking, but it was exercise. Robert and I are starting "Couch to 5K" and in the past 2 days it has been very interesting. But in an effort to win a competition at work and to become more healthy and fit, Robert and I have started to take rowing class. It's a class with stationary rowers and a leader, very intense. We are also "running." Wish us luck!! Tomorrow we go back to work and we arent really excited but after 3 nights it will be a weekend again and we will be off together. Sorry if this was too long, we had alot to catch up on!

Hello all. This is my first web log ever. Actually this is my first log of any type ever. So if it is not the typical blog entry, I apologize. That being said, Abby and I have had a busy few weeks. If you have been following the blog you know that I left Abby for nearly a week to go take care of children born with congenital heart defects. I know, I can't believe I left my wife, who I had been married to for nearly a month to go to camp. During camp we stayed in very nice cabins, where I had a private bath, we were fed three meals a day, and swam everyday in one of the coolest pools I have ever been in. Before I tell you anymore about Cardiac Kids Camp let me take a moment to get on my soap box and talk about what was called "meatless Monday". You see at some point in the history of Camp Lakeshore someone decided that it would be a great idea to not serve meat for an entire day of the week to kids who are climbing 3 story rock walls, having water balloon fights, playing soccer, and spending time outside in the 100 degree heat in a pool. If there was a group of people who need protein the most, it is these kids. And not only that, I did not climb up the food chain to become a vegetarian. So if you send your kids to camp or manage a camp, please do us a favor and don't have "meatless Mondays". If you exclude meatless Monday CKC was a blast and I can't wait for Abby and I to both go next year. Not only was it fun, it was very rewarding as well.

When I returned on Friday afternoon I was met by not only Abby, but her parents as well. They came to visit their new son in law and their daughter as well. We had a lot of fun going shopping in Southaven, MS and got to eat at Memphis Pizza cafe. I do enjoy MPC a good bit, but I truly love Wiseguy's Chicago Pizza. If you have never had it, you really should. It is mind-blowing good. On Saturday we went to a couple antique stores in downtown and midtown Memphis to look for some sweet buys. But when we got to the stores everything was really old and really overpriced. But I guess that is what antique means in Latin.

After being pretty disappointed in the antique shops we tried the Flying Fish restaurant located on 2nd street, next to Kooky Canuck. And it was by far some of the best fried catfish I have ever had. The batter was not too heavy and there was very little greasy taste. It was a solid choice. And besides the great taste, their walls are covered with Billy Basses that people have given them. If you like fried catfish, I highly recommend this place to you. Heck, I even recommend this place to you even if you don't like catfish. It is just that good.
This next part just might knock you off your feet so I will give you a minute to sit down before we get started. Are you all situated yet? OK good, because here it comes. When we returned from the Flying Fish Abby, with assistance from Mrs. Susan, performed a pretty amazing feat: they made a pound cake, from scratch. And when I say from scratch I mean from scratch. There was no assistance from Betty Crocker this time. And it was delicious too. I was very proud of my wife for taking on the challenge and crushing it. Sharp work, honey. Sharp work indeed. Next on her list is creating the world best peanut butter-chocolate chip cake or pie, whichever is the best. Here is a photo of Abby's actual cake. She is taking orders if you would like one.

Abby’s parents left us on Sunday to return to Meridian, MS. On Tuesday Abby and I got a rare treat: we got to take care of Tobey’s 8 m/o son, Malachi. We watched him for almost 24 hours. And all in all, he is a pretty cool kid. We took him to Amy’s pool for him to swim for a little while, which he really liked. I think we have a future Michael Phelps on our hands. In my opinion Malachi and Daphne have a lot in common. They are both on the play, eat, sleep, repeat schedule. Except that we can not leave Malachi while we go to the movies or to dinner. That and Malachi will one day learn English and finally be able to tell us what he really wants, which was probably the most frustrating part of child care. It is like a never ending game of charades.
If Malachi taught us anything it was that Abby and I are not ready for kids yet. And he is one pretty awesome nugget. We do a pretty good job of taking care of Daphne, but we still have a way to go before we should create a little human of our own. Well I guess that is all I have to say right now. Abby and I are going to two weddings this month, so I am sure that we will keep you in the know about them at a later time. Until then, stay classy and thanks for stopping by.

busy.busy.busy

It's funny how fast life can move. It seems like I just created the blog yesterday but it was really a week ago. Robert and I had a really good weekend. We both worked Friday night and that always means that we sleep way too late. But we were determined to wake up super early this time because we had a father's day pool party with Robert's family and then we had Noel's birthday party "aka sausage fest." We were really excited about both parties but of course we slept late, had to rush to get to the pool party but we made it in time and got plenty of food to eat. It was good to see Robert's parents and all of his family that we have not seen since the wedding. It's funny how even when you live in the same city, or 45 minutes away, how little you still see of people. We both want to work harder on seeing everyone, family is important to us both. Noel's party was fun too. Lots of yummy sausage and cheese. It was fun to see people from work, and it's always fun to socialize outside of work. Sunday Robert left for heart camp. He is working as a counselor at a camp for kids with heart conditions that he used to go to when he was a kid and then he worked there as a junior counselor at the end of high school. He was SUPER excited about going and I'll admit I was not the supportive wife. I'm not proud of that but I was being selfish and did not want my husband to leave me for a week. But I got over that and I am really proud of him and happy that he is getting to do something he enjoys. I got the impression that it would like the camp I went to as a kid, rustic, middle of nowhere, small pool but lots of fun! After talking to Robert while he was in his room, and then watching the video on the LeBonheur website, www.lebonheur.org my impression changed. He is not living the rustic life at all, except being out in 100 degree weather and fighting bugs. Its been 2 days, and I'm surviving and so is he. Only 4 more days and he will be back! AND my parents are coming in town Friday and I am beyond excited. I have not seen them since my birthday, which really is not that long but I am used to seeing them once, sometimes, twice a month. It will be nice to spend time with them, shop and eat at new yummy places Robert and I have not tried yet. We will share pictures soon!!

This is all new...

So, Robert and I decided to start a blog... it will be an interesting experience to say the least. Robert and I will attempt to keep all of our friends and families updated on our new life together. I am sure that everyone of you that knows us will know the days when Robert is blogging and days when I blog. Robert's entries will be filled with only the humor, sarcasm and daily enlightenment that he can bring into life. And my entries will be filled with all the mindless things. Robert wanted to name our blog, "The Blog Betters" which is exactly what I should have expected when I asked for his help. So for the first 2 days that was the name of our blog. We never made any posts because as usual we got caught up in life and the business of it all. But after careful consideration, that's my part of the marriage, I thought of a name that I think suits us more.
Faith. Hope. Love.
because when it truly comes down to it, these are what matter. The NIV version says 1 Corinthians13:13 "And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love."
So Robert and I ask you to follow us on our little blog and keep up with The Ledbetters, "The Blog Betters," as we begin our newlywed journey.
Abby + Robert
